Albatroz Engineering @ Paris Air Show

Aéroport Le Bourget, June 17th-23rd, Hall 2a B 286 (Portuguese Pavillion)

The 50th edition of the Paris Air Show occurs at Le Bourget Airport, 12 km (8 miles) north of Paris, France, from the 17th to the 23rd of June. It is one of the world largest exhibitions for aeronautics and aerospace industry, with flight shows, demonstrations of aircraft and avionics and often world "premières" for new aircraft and systems.

Albatroz Engineering participates in the Pavillion of Portugal (Hall 2a B 286) with other aeronautical companies in a joint organisation with AICEP (www.aicep.pt), the Portuguese trade & investment agency.

On display there is an ASLMS 2009, a system developed by Albatroz Engineering for 3D acquisition and modeling featuring

  • High Definition Video,
  • LiDAR,
  • GPS and AHRS and
  • real-time interfaces

all integrated in a compact form that is installed outside the helicopter.

Ana Alves and Sandra Antunes are both Aeronautical Engineers and they are involved in the design and airworthiness studies of the ASLMS2009 and other systems created by the company. They are also the authors of the photographs.

Presentation of Albatroz Engineering

Albatroz Engineering develops systems for airborne power line inspections
and terrain rendering based on video, infra-red and LiDAR scanning.
It has created solutions for rotating and fixed wing aircraft that focus on integration of multiple sensors for simultaneous data acquisition, flexibility in the configurations and mission assignments and real-time data processing. New systems can incorporate existing sensors thus maximizing efficiency and reducing the operators learning curve.

Current installations include EC120B Colibri, AS350 Écureuil and Bell Jet Ranger 206B. Aircraft and crew safety are critical near power lines, hence real-time processing provides tools to enhance flight safety and interactivity.

The company is based in Lisbon and, since 2007, its systems have been used
to inspect from manned helicopters more than 100000km of over-head lines
in Portugal, Spain and France, with some minor assignments in other countries.

The company is also involved in the airworthiness certification of its productsaccording to EASA standards.

Albatroz Engineering committed its R&D effort to extend to fixed and rotating wing UAV the technology and features created for manned aircraft further extending the reach of airborne solutions.

The ASLMS2009 system is a showcase of Albatroz Engineering skills on:

  1. Aeronautical payload design
  2. Airworthiness
  3. Project of aluminum fittings and supports
  4. Project of composite structures
  5. Project of electronic subsystems and avionics
  6. Sensor integration and third party system integration
  7. Software development with real-time capabilities.
